The Manitoba Provincial Police report a record month of prosecutions under the Motor Vehicle Act with fines from five to twenty five dollars. Speeding, improper passing, and failing to yield are cited as frequent offenses, with warnings on lights and corduroy road surfaces caused by locomotive vibration at high speeds.
Mr Newman of the T Baton Co told Bruce Gooéhand of the Dauphia Agricultural Society in Saskatoon last week that the prize cheque from the T Eaton Co for Dauphin Fair exhibits would be donated to a Dauphin charitable cause. The $152 cheque was received by the Dauphin Herald on Wednesday with a request to distribute it as deemed suitable.
Edward Campbell of Dauphin joins a party of 50 boys and 19 adults travelling from Winnipeg toward Alaska under Detroit coalman Geo E. Buchanan. The annual expedition since 1923 uses a fund split three ways for expenses with the boys earning one third. The group was greeted by Kiwanis officials and taken on a city drive before tonight's train departure at 1020.
The Dauphin Elks ball team travelled to Neepawa on Friday and won the first money plus special prizes. They beat Gladstone 6 to 2 in their opener, tied Neepawa 3 to 3 after nine innings, then won 5 to 1 against Spring Hill. George Heard hit a dramatic home run in extra innings and Slobodzian pitched well with solid support.
At St. Andrew's Presbyterian Manse Saskatoon on Tuesday July 24 by Rev W G Brown Edythe Marion Spencer of Dauphin Manitoba united in marriage to Gordon Lee Campbell of Dinsmore Sask They will reside in Dinsmore.
Jimmy Ball of Winnipes Canada finished a close second by two inches to Ray Barbotti of the United States in the 400 metre Olympic race at Amsterdam. Ball blamed his early running and outside lane, noting a better draw might have yielded victory. American and British officials viewed the finish as one of the games’ greatest, with Barbotti aided by pacemakers while Ball ran alone early.
Manitoba Power Commission chairman DL J McLean and chief engineer A H Trott led a visiting panel from the Dominion Water Power and Reclamation Service through Meadow Portage to inspect the canal site for a proposed hydro development. The group planned to survey nearby Dauphin area towns to assess potential load and demand if hydro power is installed.
Two casualties struck the silent police squad last week at crossroad intersections. One officer sustained severe injuries after a car collision at 1st N.W. and Main and is laid up for extensive treatment. Another officer was punched at 2nd N.W. and Vermillion but remains on duty despite the blow.
Duncan Pearson, governor of Dauphin Gaol, escaped serious injury after his car overturned on a hill near Ashville. A flat front tire caused steering trouble, his head was cut requiring four stitches. Reports from Dauphin District indicate generally favorable conditions for crop with wheat showing strong promise across many areas. Oats vary from fair to poor, barley is fair to good with cutting underway or starting within days in several localities. Labor is scarce with wages around 2.50 to 3 dollars per day.
Earl Tucker of Dauphin rural 25 pleads guilty before Magistrate Hawkins to five charges including three break and enter offenses one theft and one possessing burglars tools. Two break ins occurred at Dauphin Milling Co premises one at M Zworons pool room and one at I Ankle store. He is remanded for sentencing August 13. He admitted theft of tobacco candy gum and valuables and implicated a juvenile. Police Constable O Brien made the arrest. C S A Rogers K C prosecuted. In a separate report, Harry Gurr was injured when a scaffold plank collapsed at the electric plant site, breaking two ribs and requiring stitches.
St James United Church announces union services on Sunday August 12 with 11 am at Grace Church and 7 pm at St James. Rev T S Watson of Gilbert Plains and contralto Miss M Playford of Knox United Church will conduct both services.
The Parole Board of the Juvenile Courts of Manitoba met at Dauphin on August 2 with judges from Winnipeg Brandon and Dauphin, plus officials from welfare, police and hospitals. The session approved parole for Industrial Training School inmates and toured local welfare institutions.
The Rural Credit Commission, appointed by the Provincial Government, held sessions in Roblin Grandview Dauphin Ste Rose and Siding to review rural credit loans. Members include C K Guild Hector French and Clifford Barclay MLA chairing. The panel will assess each loan on its merits and propose reductions only if borrower assets and security fail to cover the debt.

A detailed levy statement shows a current year total of 8936.45 and 3794.83 for one area. the government plans an annual levy of 300000 with assessments based on equalized values across municipalities. Mrs. Anthony Rzesnoski of Dauphin took carbolic acid Monday afternoon at a farm near Valley River where she and relatives were staying. Police and the coroner ruled the death wilful after a period of low mood. no inquest. Born in Galicia, 46, she came to Canada in 1898 and married in 1901. Funeral Thursday at the Greek Catholic church with burial at Riverside cemetery.

During a Monday rainstorm Gus Andries and his family endured a sudden lightning strike and a massive blast in their room. Two farm workers were present as smoke filled the space, yet no damage was reported and no injuries occurred.
On Friday evening officials and curling club members will present plans for a new curling rink to the town council. Location and services will be discussed and curlers are urged to attend to show support for the delegation.
