The town qualifies for a provincial government grant of 1300 on a 50 50 basis for the Jackson street drainage project. Work includes grading widening and ditch improvements from No 10 highway to Vermillion river with steel culverts and road raising. Total project cost is estimated at 2600 with construction under the district engineer.
A proposal for 4 curb and gutter along the south side of Third avenue N E from Third to Fourth street N E received provisional approval at the last council meeting with work to start after Sept 14 unless objections arise. The town engineer was authorized to proceed with proposals including a north side sidewalk on Seventh avenue SE from First to Second and a curb and gutter on the south side of Seventh avenue SW from Main to First, with no objections recorded.

Four rural Ochre River councillors quit on July 20 after Finlay McLennan was re elected as reeve. The resignations involve Carl C. McIntosh Ward two Thos W Garton Ward one Alexander Mackie Ward four and Geo E Geisel Ward three. An Aug 14 by election will fill the seats with eleven candidates named on Aug 4. two incumbents Thos W Garton and another councillor seek re election.
Dan Craig, gladiolus champion of Dauphin, leads the Senn contest after day one with eight points from first and third places. Ed Osborne trails by four points, with A J Schmeid third. Five exhibitors entered 22 blooms as the three Saturday contest runs toward the August 18 show opening.
The Dauphin Horticultural Society schedules its annual garden and fruit show for Tuesday and Wednesday August 18 and 19 Exhibits will be displayed in the D M C C industrial building.
Rose Lee was named bathing beauty queen at the third annual Elks Regatta on Ochre Beach. Marion Louns bury and Irene Wadman were named princesses as 18 contestants paraded and were judged on poise appearance and costume. The event drew nearly 300 spectators despite chilly water and featured water skiing demonstrations, a loose goose chase, power boat races won by Wayne Chute, and a large afternoon program organized by Dauphin Elks Lodge No. 57 with 30 members helping run booths, bingo, and races for all ages.
Northern Manitoba horseshoe champions were decided at Ochre Beach with doubles title won by H. Snart and W. Crawford who held last year’s crown. Singles champion was Stan Giles of Souris. runner-up Hugh Ferguson of Brandon. The event featured Oklahoma style tosses and saw a strong display despite fewer entries than last year.
Local Jaycees promote the Lite a Bumper safety campaign with reflective Scotchlite tape applied to car bumpers along Memorial Boulevard this Saturday. Proceeds fund a free bicycle safety program as they aim to reflectorize all vehicles in the Dauphin area.
Town engineers Ed Lundman presented a plan for hardsurfacing Front Street 750 feet west from Main Street to the station parking area. The project includes extending the south curb and adding driveways into CN R property to improve traffic flow and parking.
