Carl Marter Star In London RCAF Sports Meet
Aircraftman Carl Marter, a noted Manitoba junior sprint champion, starred at the Royal Canadian Air Force overseas meet in London's White City stadium on Monday. He placed second to Sgt. L C Sylvester of Stratford, Ontario, while scoring two victories in the 100 and 220 yard dashes.

Ration Book Distribution To Follow Same Lines
Plans are under way for the distribution of the No 3 ration book late in August so every consumer will have his new book as the No 2 book expires Sept 2. Distribution of coupons will begin a week or ten days before that time with hundreds of volunteer workers aiding local ration boards in a campaign modeled on last September.
Ball Team Secures Second Victory in Classic
No. 108.F.T.S. wins its second baseball tournament in a Neepawa invitation classic hosted by the Beautiful Plains Agricultural Society. They beat Gladstone 13-2 in the final, with participants including Carberry Gladstone No. 2 Manning Depot Brandon and No. 10 SFTS. Notable hurlers featured Dauphin’s Orval Minish and Swan River’s star moundman, formerly with Winnipeg Maroons.

New Service For Mail From Forces Overseas
A large overseas mail consignment from Canadian armed forces arrived in Montreal on a nonstop trans Atlantic flight by TCA. The shipment included naval, military and air force personnel and technicians on special missions to Canada and more than 3000 pounds of mail. At Montreal airport post office the mail was distributed to points across the country.

Five Killed in Crashes At Local Air Schools
An RC AF bombing instructor Pilot Officer R D Esselmont and Warrant Officer 2 R D Mathers plus LAC P A Trudel and a New Zealand airman died when a Boeing crashed at No 7 bombing and gunnery school on Tuesday July 27. The Dauphin district exceeded its depth charge quota by eight, investing $2 610.25 in war savings stamps.
