George H Adams Elected District Deputy for BPOE No. 6

George H. Adams was elected district deputy grand exalted ruler of the BPOE by the Manitoba Grand Lodge at Lethbridge Alberta sessions held July 24 and 25. Confirmation came by letter from the Grand Exalted Ruler of Canada. Adams has served in four lodge chairs and previously led Dauphin lodge No. 57. He succeeds Don Stevens of Benito and will serve a two year term with Swan River Benito Roblin Russell Winnipegosis and Dauphin in district No. 6.

Dauphin Water Safety Program Acknowledged

Report from Mankobs Red Cross describes a Dauphin program praised for hard work and community support. Frank Bumstead of the Rotary club and Pet Snodgrass helped sponsor the program despite adverse local facilities. A prior derisive article about Dauphin’s water safety prompted a plebiscite on pool construction.

Sod Turning For New Retarded Children School In Dauphin

Attorney-General Stewart E. McLean turned the sod for a new school for retarded children in the Dauphin area on July 31, 1965. Local officials and community groups praised the project, with Dr. Ray Butler of the Manitoba Association for Retarded Children highlighting decades of effort and naming the ceremony as the start of a naming contest.

Record Number Of Homes Judged In Dauphin Grounds Contest

The Dauphin home grounds committee reports a record number of homes judged with many showing excellent landscaping and well kept grounds. Prize winners include Mr. and Mrs. T. P. Rubeniuk and Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Waite for best design on a lot, with other top placements across multiple addresses and farms in the Rural Municipality and Eclipse Gartmore areas.

Trinity Lutheran Church Dauphin Welcomes New Pastor

David Kaiser accepts call to Trinity Lutheran Church Dauphin starting August 1 as pastor. He hails from Garnaville Iowa with degrees from Wartburg College and Luther Theological Seminary. Installation set for August 11 at 7 30 with Pastor W Raths officiating. Kaiser family resides at 16 Kirby Avenue East Dauphin.

Dauphin Grain Deliveries Reach 1 368 800 Bushels for 1964 65

Local elevators in Dauphin reported total grain deliveries of 1 368 800 bushels for August 1964 to July 1965 across wheat oats barley rye flax rapeseed and forage. Capacity at storage facilities stood at 800 000 bushels with only 713 400 in use leaving 66 000 bushels free as the new crop year began.

Weather Summary For July And Early August

The past week brought rain in parts of the area totaling 1.40 inches while at the mountain foot more than an inch fell in under thirty minutes on the last day of July. July yielded 327.8 sunshine hours and 4.75 inches of rain with ten thunderstorm days. Max 87 on July 3, min 33 on July 5, mean 63.6, plus spotty hail and sporadic deluges damaged crops. August opened with 0.96 inch rain and may stay wet with high 80s temperatures possible this week.

New Appointment for Canon Archer J Serase to Lead Indian Residential Schools

Canon Archer J. Serase, principal of Mackay Indian Residential School since 1957, is named assistant director for Indian residential schools under federal government and the Anglican Church of Canada. He will oversee western schools from Ontario to British Columbia and north, with October trips to Alert Bay, Carcross, and Wabasca. A new Mackay vice-principal, Rev M J Flemming, arrives from Toronto to take the post.

Centennial Committee Seeks Park Cost Studies for Dauphin Council

The Dauphin Centennial Committee urged the town council to study costs for park work and an outdoor pool as potential Centennial projects. They cited a combined $90,000 available from the one mill levy 1963 70 and a federal provincial grant, and noted the Lions Club plans park work with Vermilion Vermilion Vermilion. A park plan for Vermillion Park was given to the Lions Club for initial project study with liaison requested to avoid overshadowing Lions efforts.
