Local Football Playoffs Set With Winnipeg Rivalry Looming
At a July 20 meeting two teams were entered in playoffs for district titles with games scheduled August 11 18 and 25 and a final at home. Milee and Hamilton may sign players for their teams. The Winnipeg winner must win two of three, with games counted not goals. A Junior Manitoba Championship final to be hosted here on August 13 and Dauphin aims to match Winnipeg juniors. Brooklands and St James meet in the semi finals at Stadium Saturday at 6 15 for a shot at the title.

A Monday baseball game at the ball park saw Swan River defeat Dauphin Elks 5 to 4 after a late ninth inning rally. Nurse dies heroically saving child at Nova Scotia camp
Margaret Cruise, born 1891 in Quebec and raised in Dauphin, Manitoba, sacrificed her life while rescuing a 11 year old at Rainbow Haven summer camp near Halifax. She sank after diving to save the girl. body sent to Dauphin for burial. Survived by parents, three brothers, two sisters, and others. Funeral at St James United Church.

Elks O' Day at Winnipegosis Field Day Highlights
The Third Annual Field Day of the Winnipegosis Elks was held July 28 at Beach Public Park by Lake Winnipegosis. Four to five hundred children attended free as guests, with a jitney shuttle, track and novelty races, baseball winners Wilson River over Fork River and Winnipegosis over Dauphin, and a thrilling motor boat race. Evening events featured a seaplane demonstration dropping literature for prizes, a luncheon booth, refreshments, midway amusements, and a lively Jitney Dance Hall with the Smith and Sifton orchestras. The day closed with the crowd’s refrain It’s the End of a perfect day.

Fire at electric plant ends with quick fire brigade response
An electric light and power plant attempted self destruction by fire last Saturday. Brickwork collapsed near a boiler and the roof timbers caught flame. Firemen extinguished the blaze promptly, preventing greater damage despite the plant’s rumored 75 year life.
Hospital to be built by day labor plan
A hospital board held a special meeting to open tenders for construction. Many bids were vague and held for further consideration. The main portion will proceed by day labor under an inspector, with heating plumbing electric work tinsmithing and related tasks contracted separately.
Foundation Work Underway For New Skating Rink
Supt Brinkman will direct foundation work this week with excavation to precede cement piers and surface walls. Construction contract for the steel framework has been awarded to Manitoba Bridge & Iron Works.

Fire destroys Watson barn. ten horses perish
A large farm barn on E. A. Watson’s property burned in the early hours of Wednesday, destroying ten horses and all barn equipment. The owner freed four horses before flames forced him back. two escaped horses were badly scorched, one had to be shot. Minor hay remained upstairs. insurance covered only part of the loss.

Accident near Swan River injures five occupants
A car crash a few miles from Swan River injured S Boroditsky Robt Long Mrs Long Donald Norman and a traveling Chinaman. Long and Mrs Long were cut by glass, Boroditsky lacerations to nose and tongue, Norman neck injuries and the Chinaman was jolted through the roof. All were treated at Swan River Hospital except Norman who went to Winnipeg. The Dauphin theatre hosts the latest music on Friday and Saturday.
