Tennis Tournament Draws Large Number of Players

The Northern Manitoba Hardcourt Tennis Tourney concluded with finals Sunday after a Thursday start. Fred Walton and B. McConnell reached multiple semis and Walton beat Harper 61 60 in one semifinal. McConnell defeated Oliver 6 2 in the other before edging Walton 6 2 5 7 7 5 for the Bowman Cup.

Modern Store on Main Nears Completion

The brick store on Main St N E by A H F Steick nears completion adding a modern facility to town. It closes a 20 year Main Street hole, features three shops with rest rooms, and aligns with Steick’s store service ideas. The block has no vacant property except an 18 foot lane between properties.

D. D. McDonald Heads New National Park Organization

Following Riding Mountain National Park dedication on July 26 the original park committee formed in 1927 disbanded to create the Manitoba National Park Association. D D McDonald of Dauphin was elected president with D L Mellish Pipestone as vice president and J S McPadden Dauphin as secretary treasurer. Wallace Geisel Wins Sixth Prize at Grain Show

Mr Wallace Geisel of Ochre River won sixth place for White blossom sweet clover at the World Grain Show and Conference in Regina. He received $44, and this was his only entry in the event.

August Lawn Bowling Club opens with six ladies rinks

The Ladies' August Competition starts with six rinks. Skips are Mesdames Heard Johnston Wick Terry and Williams. In the Gentlemen's August Competition for the House of Stone trophy there are five rinks skipped by Messrs Wick Bottomley McDonald Brierley and Grant. The trophy is on display in Strachan's Tailor Shop.

Rangers or Swan River Vie for Manitoba Junior Playoffs

The Rangers beat United twice to become Dauphin’s Manitoba Junior Football Championship hopefuls. Swan River joins the series as the only other Manitoba entrant, with a sudden death rematch set for Wednesday at 7 30 p m to decide Winnipeg’s final representative.

Northern Manitoba reeves mayors and officials met in Dauphin Town Hall to discuss municipal administration under new amendments to the municipal and assessment acts. Dauphin Couple Celebrate Golden Wedding July 28

Mr. and Mrs. Henry E. Herrick of Dauphin marked their golden wedding anniversary at home on Friday July 28. Both born in 1854 in Abbots Langley England they wed July 28 1883. Herrick came to Canada in 1892 later homesteading near Dauphin. They have four children and remain active in gardening and the Dauphin Band which performed at their celebration.

Pioneer Councillor Waite Dies in St Boniface Funeral Held

James Waite longtime Dauphin area councillor and Conservative supporter died aged eighty five after a lengthy illness. He moved from Ontario to Red Deer and Dauphin, later lived in the St Boniface Old Folks Home. Funeral held at Farrell's with interment at Riverside Cemetery.

Free Tuberculosis Clinic Next Week at McKenzie School

A free Tuberculosis Clinic will be held at the Mckenzie School in Dauphin on August 7 8 and 9. Patients must be referred by their doctors or the public health nurse. Town residents should keep their assigned hours while country residents may attend until 4 p.m. daily. The clinic targets patients with tuberculosis and their families and contacts.
