Winnipeg Stewardess Dies After Park Road Crash

Ottillie Metcalfe a 24 year old Winnipeg woman and CP Air Lines stewardess died from injuries after her car collided with a gravel truck on the Clear Lake road in Riding Mountain National Park. She had just won four events at the Dauphin fair and was returning to Winnipeg from Dauphin. An inquest was opened by coroner Dr. R E Dicks and adjourned to August 10. Funeral services were held July 28 at St Andrew's River Heights United Church Winnipeg with burial at Portage la Prairie.

Mani toba Little League tourney set for Aug 9

Dauphin Manitoba hosts its first annual Mani toba Little League baseball championship at DMC grounds with teams from Neepawa Brandon Grandview Roblin Yorkton and more. Prize money ranges 50 for first 30 for second 15 each for third and fourth plus 5 for each participant. Winnipeg teams plan an incision series with Dauphin the day after the opening parade.

Dauphin Arena Destroyed By Fire Unknown Origin

A fire of unknown origin leveled the municipally owned Dauphin skating rink Sunday night. Firefighters battled for hours to stop spread to nearby homes as transformers and power lines were doused, rain earlier helped protect Burrows Avenue, and the 24 year old rink with 1500 seats had insurance of 10000.

Street Improvements Progress in Northwest Business Area

Public works crews undertake sidewalk curb and gutter work on Ver million street between First and Second avenues N W. Repairs to the east block sidewalk and curb are complete. Storm sewer lines and catch basins are installed along Vermillion and Burrows avenues with drainage improvements. A curb and gutter project on the south side of Third avenue from Main street toward the lane has begun.

Dauphin council weighs rink funding and Winnipeg trip

Dauphin faces a winter without a rink as council plans a Winnipeg delegation to obtain funding options. A $75,000 laminated-arch arena with 3,500 seats is considered, with long range financing including federal aid and a possible use of the town reserve fund. The delegation will meet officials in Winnipeg and report at a Friday joint meeting with the agricultural society and DMC C board.

Local Harness Track Records Set At Dauphin Fair Meet

Azoff Guy owned by A Derté of Deloraine and driven by Kealey set a Dauphin race track record and season best with a 2.08 mile in the second heat of the free for all pace. Dale Riggs driven by J Tutt of Rouleau Sask established a 2.10 mark in the 2.18 pace heat. Ideal weather and a top track drew praise from horsemen. Andy Foster gate and W L McGregor commentator guided the meet with multiple clean heat sweeps across races.
