Ten local players reach prizewinning rounds in the men open and women divisions at Clear Lake. Mrs. A R Hurst Bran don defeated Winnipeg star Mrs. Petersen on the 17th green to claim the women’s title, while Helen Bowman was eliminated in the second round. Bowman’s bid for the senior title fell short by one stroke as Mr Bowman’s pace could not be topped. Semi final matches halted several contenders from defending open and senior championships.

Unidentified bright flash Roars Between Homes on Second Ave NE
Tuesday evening a ball of light described as large as a boxcar struck the air between the houses of Henry Reichert and A. Rzesnoski on Second avenue NE. The flash lasted about a second with a loud crash, sending several on Reichert’s verandah about ten feet from their chairs, though no shock or sulfur scent was detected.

Engineer Thomas Caley Retires From CNR After 48 Years
Thomas N. Caley retires after a long railway career with the CNR spanning 38 years and prior CPR service. He is celebrated at Dauphin station by family, R. G. Wardmaster, and G. R. P. Graham. Caley began as a wiper in 1897, became fireman in 1900, engineer in 1905, joined CNR in 1907, and for 12 years has served in passenger work. He plans to remain in Dauphin, pursuing fishing trips and community activity with friends.

Child Dies After Beach Car Accident Near Dauphin
Two year nine month old Lorraine Inez Petrie died after a taxi backed into her near the Petrie cottage at Dauphin beach. She was the daughter of Sgt. Gordon G. Petrie and Mrs. Petrie of Vancouver. an inquest was set for Wednesday evening. Funeral services are planned for Thursday at 2:30 p.m. from Bullmore's funeral home with burial at Riverside cemetery. She is survived by a five year old brother Larry.
