Memorial Boulevard plan discussed by council and DMCC

DMCC offers 2500 dollars to aid Memorial Boulevard with council meeting Monday after a town engineer estimate of 30 000 dollars for the project. Building sales may cover costs. road work could start soon though full surfacing not planned this year. DMCC hopes to advance center works and site decisions involve community input from various groups.

Memorial Centre Auction Sale Date Given as Indefinite

Organizers postponea the monster auction and rummage sale at the Memorial and Community Centre due to weather and road conditions. Donations continue to be collected by the committee until residents can reach town for the event and the ball.

Provisions For Control Planned at Massey Dam

S Solomon told the board of trade that discussions with H W P Gemmell a district engineer indicate an apron will be built across the new channel beside Massey river dam though not yet. Gemmell confirmed plans call for an apron and noted the channel bed is now level with the river bed two feet lower than originally planned. Ward proposed a compromise to cut the channel to river bed depth and install the apron later to satisfy farmers committees who oppose immediate water level control in Lake Dauphin.

Park Road Enquiries Halted by Board of Trade

The Board of Trade decided not to forward a communication to Federal Minister of Mines and Resources J A Glen about the Riding Mountain park highway. The move follows knowledge of a $200,000 appropriation already made for park road work, with the secretary directed to request detailed work plans from Park Superintendent Heastip.

Fair Prize List Now Complete For 1948 Livestock Show

The livestock section of the 1948 summer fair and race meet prize list is published on page ten. Complete prize pamphlets will follow, exhibitors should use the newspaper listing as a planning reference. The ponies class adds five new sections to attract more entries. fourteen special prizes are donated by business firms. The pet dog show is not continued due to space and heat. the Angora rabbit class returns with championship ribbons and larger cash prizes.
