Police and the RCMP investigate a large gasoline theft from a storage facility with two or more suspects and a possible vehicle. An attempted break in at Falcon Oil premises was deterred by a wooden wall beneath metal sheeting.
The University of Manitoba will award H N Macneill the Doctor of Laws honoris causa at a special convocation in Winnipeg on May 17. Macneill serves as district registrar of the Land Titles office in Dauphin and is known for educational and hospital work.
Funeral services for Mrs John F Hall were held at the Dauphin United Church with Rev D K Burns officiating. Burial followed in the Gilbert Plains family plot. Kathleen Govier born in Blyth Ontario 71 years ago came west in 1880 and married Henry Ady before later moving to Dauphin and then Gilbert Plains.
A grass fire on Sunday destroyed 35 tons of hay as dry vegetation in the Dauphin district burned rapidly. The fire spread via adjoining fields due to tinder-like conditions, with evidence pointing to the arid vegetation as the main cause.
Citizens form committees to stage Coronation Day events in Dauphin. A forenoon parade featuring floats, decorated cars and bicycles will precede a public open-air service at the Town Hall. Prizes announced for parade entries, and trees to be planted at three schools.
Dauphin Collegiate Institute seeks to expand vocational training. J N McFadden says a limited group of 25 to 30 students will split time between academics and hands on work with local tradesmen to address the skilled labor shortage.
On May 17 and 18 a no charge Art Loan Exhibition and Museum Display will be held in the town hall under the Dauphin School Board with the Department of Education and the Society of Manitoba Artists. Events include lectures lantern slides and ample display room for townspeople students and rural schools.
William Newman of Winnipeg filed a suit against the Town of Dauphin seeking 8900 for work on the new impounding dam built last summer. He alleges the resident engineer's measurements were incorrect. (Continued on Page 6, Column 1).
At a Dauphin Parks Board meeting Alec Katz was chosen chair for 1937 38, succeeding Roy Watt who resigned. Two board vacancies were filled by Robi Scott and J. G. Somers. F. T. Wright was reappointed secretary, with C. D. Bates acting until Wright's full recovery. H. J. Atkin resumes as tourist camp and park caretaker.
Mrs. R. F. McWilliams of Winnipeg will address the Local Council of Women's banquet at Dauphin town hall Friday evening. She is a member of the Winnipeg City Council.
