A Dauphin council meeting reviewed relief funding, property purchases, and by law questions. The mayor defended the administration against a local newspaper report, while councilors disputed press claims with notes on records and responsibilities.
Next Thursday the Dauphin Town Hall hosts the Third Annual Drama Festival as groups showcase renewed staging with velour curtains. Donald McKinnon a Hud son Bay Company pioneer in the west celebrated his eighty third birthday at his daughter Mrs Strang s home. A native of Scotland he came to Canada sixty four years ago to work for the fur company moving from Red River to Elphinstone then retirement followed by dwelling with his daughter in Dauphin after his wife Charlotte Jackson died two years earlier.
A complimentary banquet will be tendered by Dauphin citizens on Wednesday evening May 1 to Honorable Jas L Bowman and Mrs Bowman. The event honors Bowman's appointment to the Speakership of the House, sponsored by the Town Council with help from town organizations.
The Easter season social hub was the annual Golf Dance held at the town hall on April 22. Mrs. M. G. Feebles led as general convener with key support from Mrs. F. King, Mrs. A. Katz, and Mrs. E. G. Frere ensuring guest comfort. The event featured extra dances at supper, a Balloon adorned ballroom, and the Music Makers orchestra with lush plant decor. Supper convenor was Mrs. R. Hawkins with Miss D. E. Street and Miss E. Code assisting. Gentlemen golfers aided by serving refreshments helped round out the evening.
Funeral services for Mrs Sarah R Coffey of Dauphin were held in Winnipegosis with Rev J F Palmer officiating at the graveside. Born in 187? she married Captain Edwin Dennis Coffey and later moved to Rat Portage and Winnipegosis before settling in Dauphin in 1908. She leaves two sons, five daughters and several relatives among Dauphin and Winnipeg, with pallbearers named.
The Dauphin Agricultural Society decides at a regular meeting to open the summer fair to exhibitors province wide, dropping the regional restriction due to past low entries and feed concerns. Advanced admission is set at 25 cents for those over 12, with daily attractions sponsored by local organizations. A Sally Rand-style act offer from William Morris agency was tabled.
Dauphin hosts the Fifth annual Art Exhibition under the Local Council of Women with works from the Winnipeg Sketch Club and local artists. The event aims to inspire public support and promote appreciation of art and vision in daily life.
Rains from the west drenched southern Saskatchewan, protecting farms from dust. A steady drizzle moved across the province reaching Indian Head, with dust storms subsiding from the Manitoba boundary area as rain showed signs.

Robert McKellar of Grandview was nominated Tuesday to carry the CCF banner in the next Dominion elections at a Dauphin riding convention. Despite rain and road conditions, 44 of 89 polls were represented as delegates debated open conventions and the party's future with William Ivens urging fidelity to CCF principles.
