TransAir To Start Northern Viscount Service Next Week
TransAir will launch the Northern Viscount route to Manitoba next week with a 44 passenger turbo prop operating between Winnipeg and Northern Manitoba centres including Dauphin. The April 15 switch from TCA added Regina Yorkton Brandon Winnipeg and other Prairie flights. Daylight saving time adjustments will occur on April 28 across affected communities.

Mrs Sheila Maurer of Winnipeg will adjudicate the Dauphin district regional Drama Festival at the town hall on May 2 3 and 4 sponsored by the Dauphin Little Theatre. She acted in British drama league festivals before moving to Canada in 1952 and has worked with Winnipeg Little Theatre Rainbow Stage Shoestring Theatre and Caravan Players.

F. Sanderson is appointed inspector with George Alfred Guilbault of Lorette to supervise Tiger Hills division southeast of Brandon. Nicholas Toews of Steinbach will oversee remote northern schools including Thompson and Churchill. Visiting High School Band Earns Hearty Applause
The Souris North Dakota high school band performed in the collegiate auditorium on Friday April 19 drawing over 250 spectators. Under conductor Dr Merton Utgaard they wore blue uniforms with white trim and played Concert Overture Gabrielles Ablerseelen Student Prince Overture Overture Internationale and Emblem of Unity. The ensemble includes 95 students across Souris elementary and the instrumental music program.

Freiheit Construction Ltd. of Dauphin has won the contract to alter the Bank of Montreal's Dauphin branch. Work to start immediately and finish by July will enlarge the main-floor banking area to about 1,000 square feet, add three safety deposit booths, a five-teller counter, new vault, air conditioning, acoustic ceiling, lighting and flooring. Moody, Moore and Partners designed the plans. the branch has operated since 1913 and moved to current premises in 1917.

Dauphin chamber of commerce discussed extending Saturday 6 pm closing to Aug 31 each year. A March survey of 62 businesses yielded 346 replies. 22 favored the extension, 5 for until June 30, 7 kept closing at 6 as is, 2 would join the majority. March of Dimes Campaign Raises $2291 in Dauphin District
Dauphin Oddfellow lodge No 36 and Rebekah lodge No 13 report the January canvass collected 2291.83 for the March of Dimes. A cheque was presented at the Oddfellow and Rebekah convention in Winnipeg on March 21. This eighth campaign by the lodges is among the most successful yet.
