Kings Crowned Intermediate Champs in Calgary Playoff Thriller

The Kings overcame a 3-2 series deficit to win 6-4 in overtime on Monday, tying the series and forcing a seventh game. Pete Pienook received the Edmonton Journal trophy from H A A A president Herold Brandreth after their dramatic victory. Dauphin parade and civic banquet set for Thursday with a $1.75 dinner for about 300 fans to honor the Canmore club.

Canmore Cubs Triumph As Dauphin Battles Hard

Canmore led by Chakows Krowchuk and Jefferys in a tight contest against Dauphin Haddrell. Jefferson’s late line drive at 17 37 gave Canmore a first period edge while Dauphin star George Tamblyn directed the Dauphin offense with strong support from Mosienko and Pisnook.

Grace Seale and Dean Durston Win Top Honors In Short Course

Grace Seale of Dauphin led the girls with 1054 points in the 27th Dauphin short course while Dean Durston topped the boys with 2109 points. Teams from Dauphin Gilbert Plains and Ochre River earned top overall marks as awards were presented by E. H. Lange.

William McClernon Retires After 34 Years With CNR

William McClernon of Dauphin retires from the Canadian National Railway after 34 years of service. He began switching in 1918 after returning from overseas duty and held roles in Dauphin and Winnipeg. He served in the 226th Battalion and 181st Battalion during World War I before settling into municipal and trade union activities. He married Sarah Adella Finlan in 1921 and has four daughters. He has been active in Eclipse school district, D.M.C.C., Dauphin agricultural society, and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, including leadership roles for decades.

Dauphin Regional Festival Opens April 30

The 14th season begins in Henderson auditorium with Miss Beth Douglas judging kindergarten to grade 6 choirs and town and rural groups. Thursday features 40 boy solos and pianoforte and violin events with Lorne Watson and a United Church choir finale.

Dauphin General Hospital Reports 1951 Financials

The Dauphin General Hospital 1951 financial statement shows total operating expenditures of 157 312.13, up 9 746.75 from 1950, with salaries at 58 882.68 as the largest single item. Revenue from patient care and services rose, aided by private wards at 94 052.21 and medicine drugs at 18 569.97, while donations grew to 2 737.75. Total assets stood at 112 365.88 with new equipment and a nurses residence deposit noted.

Kings mastermind Roy Bentley not present for Dauphin ceremony

Roy Bentley who masterminded the Dauphin Kings to their first western Canada intermediate hoc key cas will not be on hand for homecoming ceremonies to be staged in Dauphin today. Coach Bentley thanked the press radio and the people of Dauphin and district for their unqualified support of the team throughout the season in a radio message after their Calgary victory Tuesday night.

Winnipegosis Daily Mail Service Inaugurated

A daily mail route from Dauphin to Winnipegosis started last week with George Bates awarded a three year contract to handle delivery. Mail for Winnipegosis Fork River and Fishing River must be at the post office by 10 30 am to catch the 11 30 am truck, returning to Dauphin by 3 00 pm. On Mon Wed and Fri a side service goes to Fork River for rail transfer to Fishing River.

John A. Huska of Grandview won the F. E. Forbes trophy for milling wheat. Erwin Shoemaker of Grandview took the D. A. S. shield as champion Wiltshire in the seed grain and bacon carcass show judged in the D. M. C. C. building. The 96 entries marked a strong second annual event amid Dauphin’s short course.

Bob McGimpsey Named Director At Convention

Bob McGimpsey was named director at the annual convention of the national association of master contractors held in Winnipeg at the Marlboro hotel on April 16. About 40 to 50 representatives from Manitoba and Ontario attended to hear speakers from across Canada discuss sanitation improvements. Frank Bumstead, former director of the association, also attended.

Area Board Seeks 9500 Settlement In Bus Fire Loss

The Dauphin-Ochre area board intends to pursue a total settlement of 9500 from Osler Hammond and Nanton Ltd for the loss of two school buses in a Henderson garage fire. The board will not settle for partial amounts until full compensation is received.

Civil Defence Reorganization Discussed by Lloyd Sneath

Lloyd Sneath director of Dauphin area civil defence reviews progress at a public meeting. A chart of the department and power division was shown and his Ottawa trip summarized. The rural municipality of Dauphin is now included, aiming to lessen catastrophe impact beyond enemy action. Manitoba lags other provinces in civil defence, with no training schools or outlying area support. He noted a $160,000 provincial funding expectation.
