Flying Rock Kills 5 Year Old Boy at Flin Fion Man

Eyewitnesses recount the fatal accident at Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting open pit near Flin Fion. Berkley Scarth aged five died instantly when a rock from the blast struck him on a porch after children moved to dry ground. Medical testimony cited crushed skull and brain injuries as the cause. The inquest verdict was accidental death.

Sutherland 77 Dies. Prominent Dauphin Figure

Pevid Sutherland a former Dauphin resident aged 77 died Sunday after long illness. Born in Racway Ontario he lived in Lucknow Wingham and Dauphin before moving to Macgregor in 1920s. Survived by widow two daughters and two sons with twelve grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday at United Church conducted by Rev. R Senaley. burial in Macgregor cemetery.

Sacred Pageant for Good Friday at United Church

The Keepers of the Cross pageant will be presented on Good Friday at 8 o'clock in the United Church. It is hosted by the Women's Missionary Society with a silver collection at the door, 45 cents.

Coroner Addresses Jury On Schoolyard Accident

The coroner told the jury Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co. bears no liability for the accident near a public school about 160 yards away. The Dauphin community notes Mrs. W B Scarth, once a public school teacher here, is well known. Chief witness Mrs. A B Porter is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C B Steen of Dauphin.

Musical Festival Entries Arriving in Dauphin

Entries for the Dauphin Musical Festival to be held May 17 and 18 are arriving from Kam Sack Roblin Grandview Ochre River and Winnipegosis. The final entry day is April 20. Bernard Naylor of Winnipeg returns as adjudicator after an acclaimed performance last year.

Safety Campaign Urges Care on Manitoba Highways

Manitoba public works minister W R Chubb launches a publicity drive to cut motor vehicle deaths, urging motorists and pedestrians to practice caution, obedience to traffic laws, and courtesy. He notes ten deaths last year and two already in 1925, stressing personal responsibility and home training to prevent man made accidents.

Manion Refuses to Withdraw Statements

Hon. R. J. Manion, minister of railways, refuses to retract remarks about John W. Dafoe, editor of the Winnipeg Free Press. He says Dafoe lied and falsified records and will not be silenced. Mackenzie King urged a retraction or explanation, but Speaker Bowman ruled Manion within his rights.

Dauphin General Hospital to Add New Wing at $35,000

The Dauphin General Hospital directors plan a three story brick addition costing about $35,000 to expand from 50 beds to roughly 100. Construction may start May 15 and finish by September 1, with staff expansion and an enlarged nurses training school. The project will reuse the current site of the nurses home.
