Destructive Fire Destroys Much of Makinak Village
A Saturday morning fire in Makinak wiped out about seventy five percent of the business district. Nine buildings burned, total loss estimated at 24 200 dollars with 6 000 dollars insured. Fire started in J McDonald’s livery barn and spread along the street to vacant lot and road allowance. Several business and residential properties reported heavy losses with little or no insurance.

Eclipses Lecture Planned by University of Manitoba

W D Bayley Director of Temperance Education for Manitoba addressed Dauphin Public and High Schools Normal students and hospital nurses on Monday. His talk titled Naughty Ethyl described experiments showing alcohol hardening effects on substances water softens. Taxpayers to File Returns and Pay Taxes Under New Rules
The provincial income tax office drops out of issuing assessment notices this year. Taxpayers must file returns with a remittance of 25 percent of the tax due. A similar 25 percent is due every two months until full payment. Arrears will bear six percent interest. The tax office will still check returns and revise assessments for errors.
