Dauphin Normal ends term with class program and dance

On Wednesday April 8 the Dauphin Normal school closed with a final practice and tokens of esteem for the principal and staff. An at home in the town hall followed a splendid program featuring a chorus orchestra play and songs. The valedictory was given by Mr Wm Ingram and students performed a two act play The Whip Poor Will’s Song was sung by a quartet and well received.

New Pier Partly Destroyed At Dauphin Beach

The new Dauphin Beach pier partially wrecked as ice floes rose at six on Sunday evening. Large piles snapped and the deck twisted into tangled shapes. Experts note pier designs must resist spring ice to stand under moving floes.

Last meeting of the D C I Literary Society in 1924 25

The last regular meeting was held in the school auditorium on Thursday April 25. The secretary and treasurer reported. Grade XI received the program shield and Grade X the debating shield by Dr Tripp. The program included two choruses a violin solo and the Echo reading. Mrs E Gurton and family visited Dauphin. Ezra and Alva Thompson learned of their mother's death in Napanee Ontario aged 84. F Heaslip drove to Winnipeg with Cecil Bryce reporting good road conditions.

Adjourned Council Repeats Tax Arrears Action Plan

April 9 meeting in which Mayor Palner presided discussed pressing business tax arrears and ordered the secretary treasurer to pursue immediate recovery through legal action. A notice to arrears ratepayers was approved with warnings of enforcement if settlements are not made. Tax figures show 1924 arrears at 43560.63 with 1925 collections and large outstanding totals.

Death of William Creighton at Bryce's Bakery

William Creighton 38 native of Dundee Scotland died Sunday after years baking at Bryce's bakery. Wounded in a runaway weeks earlier, his death linked to a constitutional ailment. Vermillion Lodge handled the funeral in Riverside Cemetery. Rev T Neville leaves for Toronto for Methodist Transfer Committee duties. A buoyant Easter Monday ball at the town hall opened the golf season. Mrs. G. C. J. Walker led arrangements with her committee, and the Novelty Four orchestra provided music as dancers enjoyed a late midnight lunch supervised by Mrs. H. W. Hopwood.
