Visit of Masonic Grand Lodge Officers

A large turnout filled the ducal temple for a Ninth District Masonic meeting led by Grand Master Alex McIntyre. The program included conferrals of degrees, an inspirational address on masonry’s role in postwar reconstruction, and presentations of Ionic Travelling Square and past master jewels to Vermillion and Grandview lodges.

Barker Holds Greatest Number Decorations

Lieut Col William G Barker V C D S O of Dauphin earns a second Italian silver medal for a 1918 action in which he single handedly fought sixty enemy airmen and shot down six before being downed. The award names him Protector of the Air and he now holds more decorations than any other living British airman.

The New North Address At Deapats Lodge Meeting

Rev. J A Cormie spoke on The New North describing a vast region north of Manitoba and tying Hudson Bay exploration to a modern transcontinental link. The talk covered historic pursuit of the Northwest Passage and the hoped for Europe Asia connection. A lunch followed and plans for next Monday’s event were announced.

Potato Growers Meeting Postponed To April 20

The Dauphin district potato growers meeting scheduled for Tuesday April 13 is postponed to April 20 at 8 p.m. in the Municipal hall to include Prof. Straight of the Dominion Experimental Farm Morden. He will speak on potato growing and warehouse construction and the district aims to become a seed producing center with northern seed quality.

Western Boards of Trade delegation to urge Hudson Bay Route

The Winnipeg Board of Trade receives a telegram that Western Boards of Trade will send a delegation Thursday to urge Dominion Government to complete the Hudson Bay Route. Cruise MP urged to act as representative. The board also seeks action on end loading platforms, yard improvements, freight sheds, and a town map for sale.

St James Presbyterian W H M S Bank Offering

A St James Presbyterian W H M S meeting was held in the church auditorium on Thursday afternoon April 8. A large turnout of ladies attended with Mrs J G Struthers presiding. A fine program included solos by Mrs A B Fallis Neepawa Mrs Hawkins Mrs Oliphant Mrs Paul and Miss M Strang with Mrs Roberts at the piano. The collection totaled 70 dollars.

St Pauls Girls Aid Library hosts a whitewear sale in the church basement on Saturday May 1. Funds support the library and community programs.

Funeral of John Dwyer in Winnipeg

John Dwyer aged 70, widow of Elizabeth Dwyer, longtime Dauphin pioneer, died at Qu Appelle after a lingering illness. Funeral held Saturday from his daughter’s home in Winnipeg to Brookside Cemetery. survivors include ten children and siblings in Manitoba Ontario and Calgary.
