Town announces no paving program this year breaking nine-year pattern. The public works estimate includes curb and gutter work, storm sewers, and base preparation for residential streets with about 1600 dollars town share for new area improvements. Continues on page eight.
Administrator John Lysak of Dauphin General Hospital says the facility is prepared for disaster response with a stand to alert plan. A staged approach would shift from stand to to limited emergency and then to declared emergency, relocating evacuees to Winnipeg hospitals if needed and doubling Dauphin bed capacity to 254. Ste. Rose General Hospital also plans to take 40 evacuees from Grace, as Manitoba Hospital Commission maintains contact to stay ready.
The Dauphin Salvation Army hall hosts an hour long concert Friday April 15 at 8 p m by The Pas Young People’s Salvation Army band. Lieut Bent Hougensen organized the 30 piece group over two years and leads as bandmaster. The band has performed for services and public concerts in The Pas and will billet guests before leaving for Brandon to perform another concert and participate in Citadel services. A seven tymbalists group from Dauphin will also perform to add variety.
Winnipegosis council approves 1966 budget with no general mill rate increase and a four mill rise for schools bringing total to 89 mills from 85 in 1965. A 50 cent frontage levy per foot is proposed for waterworks 1966 onward, and paving plans for Secan Street and Victoria Avenue are discussed with cost sharing arrangements.
Budget proposes 1966 expenditures of 875193 for municipal and school needs in Dauphin. Finance committee recommends a balanced plan with total property tax at 6 mills, up 2 from prior. Details list levies and chief rates to be approved by council.
A proposed municipal budget of 540 976 for 1966 is recommended by the all member finance committee for town council approval this Thursday. The plan funds spending by a 25 mill property tax levy, one mill above 1965, with general levy at 20 mills and a 5 mill special levy. The budget anticipates 270 760 in other revenues and notes increases in business levies and local assessments, with rateable property rising to 10 789 870 and one mill raising 10 789 87.

Dauphin local school board No 905 seeks to extend town boundaries to land south of Kerr Avenue and east of Mountain Road for a junior high site. It received a $1,200 per acre offer from Anthony Komarnisk for seven acres with one donated, totaling $8,400, while Barker and Dunfield sites priced at $4,000 per acre would total $32,000. The planning commission proposed eight acres for the site and two potential locations in the north end of town.
Twenty six members attended the Dauphin chamber of commerce quarterly meeting on April six. The agenda approved two by law amendments, extended town and rural boundaries, backing Ukrainian Festival 1966, and naming three C of C officers to the festival committee. The group supported education minister inquiries into a junior college or vocational school and planned efforts for highway oiling No. 20 to No. 10. The report covered Mr Manitoba Farmer contest, courses ending April 14, and exam options for carpentry. Tourists will receive name tags for the Manitoba Junior Rifle Championship on May 7 and Bantam B tournament welcome signs will be placed at town entrances.
Municipal councils submit annual capital budgets to the provincial department detailing project purposes, estimated expenditures, and financing plans. The 1966 budget covers street paving sidewalks curbs sewers water works equipment and fire department gear.

Levelling began last week on the Main Street north site occupying a full block.
