Two year old dies from scalds in kitchen accident

Frances Holowna two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Stanley Holowna of the Keld district southwest of town died in Dauphin General hospital after suffering scalds and shock from falling into a tub of hot water. The pan was on the floor covered by a lid and fell in when she sat on it. Funeral services were held at the Keld cemetery on Wednesday.

Obituary for Mrs. James A. Fraser Pioneer Resident

Mrs. James A. Fraser died at 69 after a brief illness at her Seventh Avenue Northeast home. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the United Church, with interment at Riverside Cemetery. Born Jane Ann Stewart in Bruce County Ontario she moved west in 1889 and later settled in Dauphin area. Survived by her husband James A. Fraser a daughter Mrs. George Feuffel a sister Mrs. Donald McKillop and a brother James A Stewart plus one grandchild Brian Feuffel. Lodge's Funeral Home arranged.

Bishop Thomas to preside at St Pauls Church Sunday

The Bishop of Brandon is expected to arrive in Dauphin Saturday afternoon to officiate at a Confirmation service at St Pauls Church at 11 a.m. He will later hold another Confirmation service in Makina k. Sunday services include 8 a.m. Holy Communion 10 a.m. Litany 11 a.m. Confirmation and 7 p.m. Evening prayer.

Recount of Ballots Planned in Dauphin Riding

Hon Jas L Bowman seeks a recount of the Dauphin federal election in Manitoba. The court will hear the request at Dauphin court house before Judge F E Simpson, starting at 10 with J N McFadden leading the process and Alex Katz representing W J Ward. Moore also attends. Ward led with 5,950 votes to Bowman's 5,900 and Moore 5,130. The recount could last a week or ten days with ballots sealed during breaks and final result declared by the judge. If the recount does not change the outcome the applicant pays costs.

Death of Early Settler Joseph Bakowski

Joseph Bakowski died at Dauphin General Hospital on Tuesday April 9. He was 54. Lodge's Funeral Home handles the funerary arrangements. He is survived by his wife, seven daughters, and two sons.

W. J. Ward M P declared that an advanced flying school will be established at Dauphin under the Commonwealth Air Training plan and may be announced before month end. The site is expected large scale with night and day fields, with additional schools planned near Winnipeg and Carberry. No. 2 training command HQ will open in Winnipeg next Monday, Group Captain A B Shearer said.

The Dauphin Citizens Welfare association announces its annual spring drive for clothes. Residents with usable garments should send them to the Rest Room at the town hall or parcel them for pickup by a representative during April 22 to 27.
