Mrs Maria King of Ochre River Man died Tuesday at Misericordia hospital Winnipeg at age 50. Body sent to Ochre River for funeral at 2 p.m. from Ochre River United Church with Rev W R Donagh officiating. Born Plumas Man she had lived in Ochre River 28 years.

Metropolitan Opera Singer Heard in Dauphin

Rochester notes recall Ethel Luening a Metropolitan Opera soprano who studied in Europe and debuted in New York as Constanza in Mozart’s Seraglio with Eugene Goossens conducting. Her Cologne debut drew broad praise. Back in America she soloed on major Columbia stations in New York City. Otto Luening, a flutist, supplied obbligato for her numbers and his work appeared on a Toscanini program last April.

New Bank Manager Brings Wide Prairie Experience

A J Folkersen becomes Bank of Montreal manager succeeding Thomas Matheson. He began with the former Bank of British North America and has managed branches in Ceylon, Duck Lake, Rosthern, Humboldt, Sask, and Souris, Man. He is transferred to Dauphin and previously led the Souris and Glenwood Board of Trade and the local badminton club, and served on the Agricultural Society and Souris Golf Club boards.

Easter Pageant Brightens United Church Friday Night

The Women's Missionary Society airs a pageant titled Mornings with the Master at United Church. Directed by Mrs H G Edgar with music by Mrs W L Breadner, the program features Eastern costumed roles for Memory Peace Courage Prayer Morning Sorrow and Joy set among spring flowers and an illuminated cross.

Funeral Services Held Monday For Frank Scrase 72

Frank Scrase known as Cap Secrase, senior partner in Scrase and Son, died suddenly on Good Friday March 26 at his Dauphin home. Born in England, he moved to Canada in 1880 and held many public roles including Dominion forestry supervisor and local veteran supporter. Funeral Monday March 29 with Vermilion Lodge A F and A M assisting and interment at Riverside Cemetery.

Brandon Juniors routed the Dauphin club 91 in a Winnipeg-Portage-Brandon circuit game. Brandon opened with quick goals from Check Palidwar and Sutherland, extended the lead with Prokoski and Snyder, then added two late goals as Dauphin tallied a final-period score from McMaster.

Rotary Hosts Sons And Daughters Luncheon At Kings Hotel

Dauphin Rotary club members entertained their sons and daughters at a weekly luncheon in the Kings Hotel. Edwin Saunderson spoke on friendship while Dr. D K Burns shared anecdotes on parent child relations. Young singer Tralee impressed with Rainbow on the River Flow Gently Sweet Afton accompanied by Jim Oliphant. Community singing led by R P Eastman.

Dauphin Curlers Bring the Cruise Shield Home

Two rinks led by James L. Bowman faced Grandview on Tuesday winning 21 to 13. Bowman defeated Belton 10-8 and Allard beat Bass 11-5. Grandview Curling Club hosted lunch, awarded the shield, and invited a rematch in the early fall.

Town to honor fireman Thomas Scrase with ward memorial

Town Council approves equipping a semi private ward in the hospital in memory of the late fireman Thomas Scrase who died on duty last summer. The project estimated at 300 dollars. The Citizens Welfare Association can hold a tag day on April 17 to raise funds. Mayors and councillors attend adjourned meeting.

Former Dauphin Minister To Receive Doctor of Divinity

Four United Church ministers will receive the doctor of divinity degree from Pine Hill Divinity College Halifax on April 14. The group includes Rev. David Flemming of Westminster United Church Winnipeg born in Glenholme Nova Scotia and educated at Queen's University and the University of Chicago. He has served pastorates in Edmonton Dauphin Manitoba and Winnipeg.
