Dutch Divers Unearth Treasure From Wrecks At Sea

Capt. Hannibal reports two English divers from Weymouth recovered treasure from Dutch East India Company wrecks near Cape Coast. They describe diving in six to eight fathoms, raising silver, gold, and brass guns, and crafting a home made wooden diving engine with a heavy lead weight. They say the sea bed looked like a garden and note a strong smell from sunlit brass and chest contents.

London News: Earl of Sunderland Brought Home From France

The corpse of the late Earl of Sunderland was landed at Dover from France on Monday night. Charles Stanhope, MP for Aldborough, who cared for him, arrived from France. Sir Thomas Colby, Bart. of Kennington, died yesterday morning. He served in Parliament for Rochester and was a Royal Navy commissioner. He was created a baronet on June 21, 1720.
