Prize Ships seized as Rose defeats Spanish privateer
On Friday laft arrived Charles Town sees His Majestys Ship the Rose under Capt Thomas Frankland send four Prizes. The Rose, a new 20 gun ship, chased and boarded the Spanish privateer Don Juan de Laon Hand inio Coman 5 with two ships and a schooner bound from Maryland to London Whitehaven and Boston. The privateer struck English colours then fired a broadside into the Rose. After a two hour dispute the privateer surrendered. The two prize ships were captured. the schooner fled shoreward with five Spaniards and two English prisoners aboard. The two prisoners escaped Liberty during the voyage, killed three Spaniards and bound two, then joined the man of war and prizes with joy. This gives Captain Frankland nine prizes.
