Address of the General Assembly of Barra-Goes Island

The Daily Post prints the Assembly’s address to Governor on his late speech. It condemns delays in fortifications plans, laments misused power and harsh acts against the militia and a dismissed officer, and calls for lawful funding, prudent governance, and humane limits while urging fiscal restraint and loyalty to the Crown. It praises former governor’s prudent rule and warns against unrest and unjust treatment.

Port reports Sept 5 describe the Betty Brice heading to Newark and the Biggs bound for Nantz. the St John Evangelist Moxham sails for Dunkirk. By Sept 6 wind shifts send back the Roebuck Man of War and Page and Clare Terders. St John Evangelist and the small vessel appear bound for Duixirx.

News from London and Portsmouth on wartime activity and trials

Letters from Portsmouth report Admiral Balchen’s fleet sailing from St Helen’s with transports, hope they proceed. Lieutenant Gregory named captain of the Page Sloop, North Sea operations planned against Spanish and French coastal craft. Twelve warships to West Indies, prohibiting merchant ships from convoy, press reports recounts near 120 pressed, river patrols and encamped forces awaiting orders. Also news of Trinity College Oxford rectorial succession, arrival of Capt. Hammond’s ship at Dun Kirk, and court trials at the Old Bailey with executions. Jamaica and Dunkirk cargoes noted, plus bankruptcy notices for Ridgwell and Tucker.
