Glasgow elects magistrates for the year ends

Yesterday the election of magistrates for the city of Glasgow occurred with unanimous choice. Andrew Buchanan Esquire was named Lord Provost along with Andrew Cochran Archibald Hamilton and Bailiff Robert Mackie. The selections were met with universal satisfaction by the inhabitants.

Newcastle candidates declared for Parliament election

Walter Blackett Nicholas Fenwick and Matthew Ridley of BifGrs have declared as candidates to represent Newcastle in Parliament. William Carre esq will be in town tonight to observe the proceedings. The mayor and council have ordered Capt Sowle to receive Freedom in a gold box weighing four to five guineas as thanks for suppressing a riot on June 26 last. A plate of 40 guineas is to Capt Fielding, 30 to Ensign Hewitt, and 10 guineas to each of the three Companies.
