Sloop Dominick Sanches Fires on St James Encounter
Testimony describes the 17th century boarding of the ship St James by a 4 Mulatto sloop led by Dominick Sanches. The St James, bound Cork to Fathais, was pressed into service, cargo seized, papers taken, and the master John Curtis detained for ten days. After further plunder and lack of redress from Porto Rico Governor, Curtis and crew fled to Jamaica aboard their boat on July 5, with portions of provisions sold by a Spanish ship in St John.
