Britannia captured and cast away near Bayonne
News from Bristol dated November 3 reports the Britannia Captain Bond left port in October and was taken by a Spanish ship bound to Carraca west of Cane Bay. The vessel later wrecked near Bayonne while bound for Philadelphia carrying indentured servants. Essex bound for Virginia also reported for October 6. In Norwich a brazier’s shop on Hog Hill was robbed of twenty pounds at church service. Two of his servants are held. a maid suspected for slipping out early. A suspected highwayman was jailed at Beccles Gaol after a rash of thefts returning from Norwich Market.
