A fragmentary account describes the king and his realm with observations on language, troops, city life, and rites. It notes ceremonial drums, leather tents, and solar-like gold adornments, plus unusual ear deformities, polygamy, dancing, and wine making. It contrasts women’s modesty with men’s licentiousness and records crops, goods, and contact with Europeans.
Deal on May 2 reports several ships in the Downs including the Italian Merchant Catteret bound for Legholm and the Armstrong for Jamaica, with accounts of other vessels like the Elizabeth Cunningham for Oxsers and the Braganza and Matilda Weale sailing in various winds. On May 3 the Elizabeth Cunningham sails for Holland and Repigins according to royal orders.
A fragmentary chronicle records royal visitors and court appointments including the visit of the Prince to Princess Mary, preparations for a proxy marriage, and various church and governance items. It also notes public notices, bankruptcies, theatre listings, stock prices, and a bridge lands letting announcement with details on parcels in Newgate Street and Bride Court.
