Great Rioting in Ariano Over Tax Exemption Expiry
From Naples April 15 a loud uprising has erupted in Ariano after the town demanded payment of taxes previously exempted due to earthquake damage. Armed protests led to the killing of the judge’s brother and two other gentlemen. A detachment of 400 soldiers has been sent to restore order.
