Port News Arrivals and Shipping Docket at Falmouth and Gravesend

In Falmouth on February 25 the Diligent from Rotterdam for Gibraltar sustained heavy damage requiring cargo removal and refitting. At Gravesend on March 2 Sheldon and Stagenhoe from Jamaica arrived. several London vessels including Richard and Sarah, Radburn, Mary Naylor, Elizabeth Hodgson, and Mary Waxton arrived at Madeira.

West India Merchants Petition and Admniralty Appointments

London reports that the West India Merchants presented a petition to the House of Commons against Spanish depredations in the West Indies and will be heard in fortnight. Admiralty officers appointed include Mitchell and Hill as Lieutenants of the Romney and Swanton as Lieutenant of the Flamborough. they were sworn in. A Messenger, Mr. Matthew Annison, died at his Westminster home. Reading Assizes ended with five condemned, including Wingfield for arson and an incendiary letter. Wingfield killed his mother after sentencing. Ambrose Strange alias John Starabout to be tried for murder and robbery of Mr. Giles Blagrave. Women accused of railing spirits not from Matshialsen Prison. Wilterg lauded for humane yet strict office. Trade notes list cargoes from Cadiz, Malaga, Gibraltar, Majorca, and Cork yards, plus exports to Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Flanders, Holland, Virginia, New England, and other destinations.
