Sheriff Eligibility Order From London Common Council

The Common Council in the Guildhall, London, on May 28 1739 decreed that any nominee for Sheriff of the City and County of Middlesex must pay four hundred pounds and twenty marks by May 22 to be exempt from the sheriff role forever unless later elected as an Alderman, which would reimpose eligibility.
