London Sheriff Nominations Kept Under City Order 1737

The Common Council of London meets in the Guildhall Chamber on Thursday 16 June 1737 in the eleventh year of George II. A measure requires any nominee for Sheriff to pay four hundred pounds into the City Chamber by 6 pm next Thursday. The act covers city ministerial maintenance and imposes eligibility constraints linked to Aldermanic status, with exemptions on the Sheriff office.

Fraudulent theft of ten double guineas in 1735 coins

Notice is requested by Mr Meadows bookseller in Cornhill and Mr John Taylor Chinaman in Pall Mall after guineas were removed from a drawer between the 14th and 16th instants. Recipients urged to report any possession or knowledge of the missing coins.
