Anniversary of the Emperor's accession celebrated with cannon

The 18th of this month marked the anniversary of the Emperor's accession. Solemn services filled churches, cannon on ramparts and admiralty discharge, grand illuminations, and public rejoicings. General Count Munich laid the foundation stone for a new bastion, inscribed for the 2d year of Peter II of Russia, with continued fortification work amid rumors of Prince Mensikoff's torture to force confessions.
