Eruption of Vesuvius Quelled by Subterranean Agents

A dated broadside notes that a volcanic eruption in Naples would have caused a great earthquake in Britain, but sulfurous matter under the earth’s bowels acted as a protective agent. Reports also describe a Barbary corsair hunt by royal galleys, royal audience events in Versailles, and various court and city notices including appointments, deaths, ship arrivals, and commercial transactions. The piece blends weather, diplomacy, court life, and market data into a single dense chronicle.
