Pope Nuncio Relates Inquisition and Monastic Debate
In Paris a July 26 report notes the Pope's Nuncio presenting briefs from the Holy See to defend the Rights of the Inquisition of Pia against English and other Protestant measures. It recounts a monk's disputation in the Great Convent where four positions of France were cited and a bishop argued that opinions do not become law without papal sanction. The court is said to be maneuvering between Rome and the Emperor Spain, while Benedictines and clergy gather in Col-me-nathon to discuss these religious-political tensions.
