Moscow reports private audience between the Czarina and the Emperor. She urged him to block the Duke of Mecklemburg’s bid for ducal possession and offered no aid if he refused. A Moscow cabinet note says troops nearer Livonia may march toward Mecklemburg. The piece covers court intrigues, ministerial distrust, and shifting diplomatic moves across Europe, including Sweden, Denmark, and Poland.
London reports General Whetham as General and Commander in Chief of the Forces in Ireland with a 2500 per annum salary. Rumors place the Earl of Macclesfield as Lord Privy Seal. Pauncefort goes to Windsor to be sworn Solicitor General to the Prince of Wales. A marriage is rumored between the Duchess of Buckinghamshire and William Morice. An alliance between Sir Roger Bradshaith’s eldest son and Mrs Bellingham is announced. An Ensign is made in Col Disney’s Regiment. Rev Henry Herbert is appointed chaplain to the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards. A Floris show at the Crown in Kensington features an aloe blossom in a half pence earthen pot. Lady Viscouness Bolingbroke plans to travel here after recovery. Westminster Justices meet to discuss closing night houses near Drury Lane.
Ten Justices of the Peace and many local khabisams complained of nightly disturbances by dissolute residents in White Hare Yard. The High Constable led a large force to seize operators, several jailed after bail refusals, and others sent to Tothill Fields Bridewell for labor. Also noted are robberies in Hampstead Lane, financial quotes for South Sea, and a dividend notice from Sun-Fire-Office dated July 9, 1730 with payment details scheduled for July 30 and subsequent Thursdays.
