Conspiracy foiled in Porto Longone leads to hangings and punishments
Reports from June 1723 describe the discovery of a plot by German, Italian, and Hungarian soldiers in the garrison of Porto Longone to murder the governor and seize ships. Four ringleaders were executed, heads set on stakes, others sent to galleys or sentenced to fortifications. Peter Carrada promoted for revealing the scheme.
