Royal Letters Patents for Trial of Lord Netterville

Irleand. Dutlin Fan. 17. His Majesty's Royal Letters passing the great Seal for appointing Robert Lord Newport to see Steward of this Kingdom for the Trial of Lord Netterville. Saturday last died Mrs Reynell wife of the Lord Bishop of Dery at his lordship's house in William-street. Letters from Cork report two large Spanish privateers had taken ships off Cape and released hands near Clonakilty after stripping them.

Arrival of ships at Gravesend on January 24 1744

On Tuesday January 24 1744 the Young Tobias under West and the Mary captained by Saunders both from Straten arrived at Gravesend. The Calais Packet captained by Gilby from Calais also reached Gravesend.

Robbery on the North Mail at Stangate Hole

An 18th century Post-Boy robbery report from January 12 1743 notes a highwayman attacked the North Mail near Stangate Hole, stole bags containing Durham Hull Lincolnshire Peterborough, and offered a two hundred pound reward for apprehension or discovery, with a pardon for the offender upon conviction.
