A letter protesting borough election conduct argues honesty is essential for MPs and condemns scurrilous pieces in public papers. It asserts that a capable head and honest heart are needed, urges voters to reward those tied to trade, and warns against foreign influence or misled electors in the coming Parliament.
Fragmentary shipping notes report Daves and Arabella from North Carolina on land deals, vessels Blatt and Susanna with crews for Philadelphia and Carolina, lifton and others. Port of Portsmouth records wind at 5 a.m. and arrival of Anguilla from St Kitts after a long passage.
An order purportedly to lift shipping embargoes in Ireland is noted, with a large convoy of victualling stores ordered for Portsmouth and Plymouth as shortages deplete magazines. The Privy Garden clash between two nobles ends peacefully, one wounded. Reports from St Kitts describe a Virginia voyage, a Spanish privateer attack, and a passenger’s health scare. Prisoner trials at the Old Bailey result in capitally convicted cases, while other misc details include ship movements, gunpowder and metal shipments, and high water measurements at specific bridges.
