British Wool Trade Crisis and Proposed Remedies

A letter urges Parliament to end the loss of Britain’s woollen industry to France and to republish a five year old piece proposing methods to protect the wool trade. It argues taxation harms national interests, favors private gain over public good, and contends trade should favor our own colonies and allied productions over foreign goods. Panther Galley Brings Wine Raisins and More to Bristol

Bristol February 9 news of the Panther Galley under Capt Christopher Forwood from Gibraltar with 239 butts of Spanish wine 50 barrels of raisins 270 quarter barrels 3592 barkers 150 jasy of ditto two barrels almonds 185 chests lemons 1000 dozen brooms and more. A storm forced loss of part of the cargo including raisins and 14 sNS. An embargo is laid on all ships in port as the Spy Man of War capt Jolly impresses seamen homeward bound and advertises for volunteers to join the vessel.

Anniversary Meeting at St Mary le Bow Vestry Room

The Anniversary Meeting of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts will be held at the Vestry Room of St Mary le Bow Cheapside on Friday in February at nine o clock in the forenoon. Four sermons will be preached by the Right Rev the Lord Bishop of Gloucester with prayers beginning at eleven o clock.

Wager Converted to Hospital Ship at Deptford

London reports the Wager, formerly an India-Man, purchased for His Majesty’s Service by the Navy Commissioners and docked at Deptford for conversion into a hospital ship. The press and watchful customs are active at the river mouth with tensions and enforcement observed nearby. Additionally Mr Page is appointed Riding Officer at Lee in Essex, replacing the late Mr Goate.
