Fragments of a Highland Boat Tragedy Near Edinburgh

An old boat sighting near the North Port is said to include the bodies of a man about 30 and a woman near 20, both dead. The pair, likely West Highlanders driven by storm and famine, were found with minimal gear and no decisive clues to their fate. The magistrates ordered their burial at proper interment.

Murder at Fordens Bridge near Wotton-Underedge

On Thursday the 1sth instane a barbarous murder was committed at Forden's Bridge near Wotton-Underedge. Two men had a quarrel but reconciled to go out shooting. One fetched a loaded fowling piece and shot the other within three yards, who died despite care. Coroner's verdict: wilful murder, suspect John Hart absconded.
