In a December letter the author urges shopkeepers and merchants to regularly inspect their affairs and keep books. He cites Dutch practice, warns of bankruptcy from neglect, and urges prudent yearly calculations to avoid ruin, calling on readers to adjust expenses and seek remedies in the new year. He ends by noting Savonna fortification funding.
News from Constantinople reports the siege of that city was lifted as a garrison mine exploded. Persian forces panicked, a joint assault failed, and the besieged retreated with external troops. Also noted: M Ringwicht to Britain receives final orders and plans departure next week.
Port news lists ships sailing for East India and Leghorn including the Northumberland and Dorrington, with others remaining. meanwhile at Gravesend arrivals from Norway, Rotterdam, Petersbourg, Ostend, Riga and Boulogne. The scene notes wind east-northeast and several tender and frigate movements.
Bankrupts William Lockier of Avening Gloucestershire and Ambrose Marshall of Cornhill London listed. Sun Fire Office announces quarterly trustees meeting Jan 6 at ten before noon behind Royal Exchange London to present fire loss claims. Attendance also at Craig's Court Charing Cross for insurance of houses goods and merchandise against loss by fire in Great Britain.
London Bridge saw high water around eight in the morning. Trading quotes include Vetterday South Sea Stock at 113 and South Sea Annuities at 164 5 8. New South Sea Annuities Books show 147 3 quarters to 1 balk. Royal Exchange Alliance Books list Mithon Baik mk and 3 quarters. Lua Bonds quoted at 41 £ 85 with Salt Tallies noted at 2 3 quarters.
The list shows several securities including Seven per Cent Emperor's Loan at 10 price, Five per Cent duro no price, Three and a half per Cent Fixchequer and Three per Cent auto options. Lottery tickets quoted at 121 to 131 eight shillings.
