A fragmentary 1736 dispatch notes the French Council of State’s order to suppress a contested libel. It reports royal anger at invective and attempts to curb printing, with instructions to seize copies and punish distributors. The piece also mentions related correspondence from bishops, and local English items include a Dame’s funeral, marriages, sermons, and financial postings.
Dex notes ships departing in clear weather listing the Nay and the Friendship Forster both bound for Nevis the Lightfoot Robinson bound for Virginia and the Seaborte Tinworth bound for Lisbon. Elliot Payne arrived from Zante and the Samuel White from Dublin in light southerly wind.
From Fatls comes news that Sieur Dupuy a Notary Publick of that City was convicted of making a false Bond on old stamp paper. Parliament orders him to repair Moriour and to be sent to the Gallies for three years. Four accomplices receive various punishments. Bar M. le Pellétiér President of the Parliament and others are noted in the express dispatch.
The General Court of the United Company of Merchants of England in the East Indies has resolved that when bonds issued under the 1731 loan mature they be exchanged for new forms. Securi ties at Three Per Cent will be accounted for at Lady Day next, allowing the original bondholders to be paid off in the new arrangement.
Public notice warns that only admitted brokers may operate within the City and liberties of London under penalties. It calls for informants to report offenders to the Clerk of the Crown at Guildhall, offering encouragement and prosecution under the lord mayor and aldermen.
