Smithfield Precinct Poll Ends with Close Results
In London yesterday at four pm the Common Council elections for Smithfield Precinct concluded. Gamon led with 580 votes, Coker 544, Savage 472, Astley 432, though Coker’s eligibility was contested by Savage under parliamentary Act grounds. Marines departed for Jamaica from St James's Park after demonstrations. The East India Company’s Leadenhall Street directors saw Capt. William Benson bow out before departure to Bencoolen. Capt. Harle of Barking, Essex, died at Billingsgate last week. Mr Markham, once a noted founder in Shoe Lane, died last Wednesday after amassing fortune and retirement.

Bridgewater captures Spanish Privateer off Cape Clear
