Notorious robber slain as pursuit ends in tragedy
Extract from Carrickmacross dated November 27 1746 reports James Garger a feared robber killed after a pursuit near the town. Johnson’s men chased him to a potato trench. Garner refused quarter, fired, and was caught then knocked down and died two hours later. Public fear to ease with his death and that of Daily.
