A December 16 1738 notice from Daily Post urging merchants and tradesmen to annually balance their accounts and inspect their affairs to avoid bankruptcy. The letter by Way 5 the Szipio Jones from Cadiz and others notes the Season ahead, advises retrenchment if needed, and cites fragile fortunes and moving ships with winds from the northeast.
The Queen is now well after a recent indisposition and assists in the senate deliberations. Clergy and Peasants deputies, backed by Burghers, press for a speedy conclusion to the Dyet before year end. In Vienna, Count Konigfege was declared High Steward to the Empress, likely resigning the War presidency.
Port News reports arrivals and departures dated December 15. The Britannia under Summers sailed to East India, the Ante lope with Morris to Seville, the Woodford with Barnard and the Albemarle with Danfie headed to Maryland. Both the Willing Mind and the Samuel and Rebecca passed Dunkirk, while the John left Nor- for unidentified voyage.
London reports from Paris that a Dun kirk engineer presented a plan to the French Court to drain two marshes between Furnes and St. Wines to curb tides and flooding. Vienna dispatches expect a courier with the Grand Signor's peace answer though a new campaign may follow with fifteen loyal regiments in Transylvania.
