Fires Ravage Barns and Grain In Herefordshire
In Herefordshire on Tuesday night a fire at Mr Dobb’s in Linton destroyed his barn grain and other outbuildings. On Saturday a larger blaze at Mordiford consumed eleven bays of buildings two stallions about 800 bushels of grain twenty loads of hay and more valued at six to seven hundred pounds belonging to Mr Samuel Peak, farmer. Last Wednesday between two and five in the afternoon Jane Clarke widow of Jasper Clarke of Rodborough was murdered by a tall ill-looking man seen near her house. she was strangled with a handkerchief and her skull fractured with a wool card. The villain, a Herefordshire blacksmith by trade, fled in a dark brown coat and ragged coat with buttons and a white handkerchief, leaving his bloody coat and waistcoat behind.
