Yesterday the mail from France arrived and the French troops passed the Rhine with great difficulty. They halted for hours as the river swelled, but a diligent bridge effort avoided danger. Baggage remains behind while officers lack linen tents and kettles, using grenadiers' supplies. They push short marches and bivouac nightly, finding abundant and cheap goods on the spot.
Report from Gloucester in the week notes a moss grown tree measuring 96 feet long with a four foot mid diameter, dug up from Crosthwaite and now owned by Robert Whitwell. Also records a Monday fire at Brockworth destroying cottages of Thomas Derrett Richard Terret and Margaret Nealus along with Terret losing goods and corn.
The Port News lists multiple ships entering Plymouth and Cowes in late June. Vessels include the Vernon, the Pipaica, the Three Brothers, the Goodwill, the Jenny, and the Sea Horse among others arriving from London Dublin and Dover with cargoes to Barbadoes Jamaica and Newfoundland. A convoy under Dartmouth with 40 merchant ships sailed for Portugal and the West Indies.
