Earl of Glencairn Marries Miss MQuire in Edinburgh

A storm swept Edinburgh and surrounding districts last week with thunder, lightning, hail, and rain. Windows shook as hailstones hammered roofs, and a palace of Liberton Church and a house by the Water of Leith were damaged. The storm extended near Fountainbridge, but spared wider devastation despite hitting crops and a Linnet in a cage.

Yorkshire Molly Captured by Privateer and Brought to Bayonne

Brisol August 18 reports that the Yorkshire Molly sailing from E1fton to Cork was taken by a fierce privateer and carried into Bayonne. King Witham privateer of this port is said to have sailed into Cork with prize ships. One prize of 60,0001 value was brought to Kinsale but escaped capture. Two large 30 gun snips sighted about 16 leagues off Cape Clear forced the captors to abandon the prize and alter course.
