Treaty of Madrid links Briton and Spanish alliance debate
A historical notice reviews the 1670 treaty between Great Britain and Spain, detailing Articles four through six, naval protection provisions, and referecing ongoing diplomacy. It notes assurances of humane treatment for shipwrecked crews, guarantees of safe return passages, and calls for restraint on privateering and reprisals amid European tensions. The piece also mixes in contemporary events, including military movements, royal appointments, and local incidents, all in a period-appropriate voice.
