Privateer Capt. Stead Returns from Jamaica Seizures

Extract from St Kitts dated May 6 reports Capt. Thomas Stead arriving at Port-Royal Jamaica aboard the Sloop Griffin from Curacao after a Spanish privateer captured a crew with 2000 pieces of eight. Stead pursued, boarded, and escaped with two English sailors. A second item notes French privateers taking nine fishing vessels near Lewisburg and Canso garrison details, plus smugglers Warren and others arrested in Southwark.

Royal Proclamation for Peer of Scoutland seat and local appointments

London reports a royal proclamation fixing December 12 for electing a Peer of Scoutand to sit in the House of Lords in place of the late Earl of Lauderdale. It notes Mr Harris named Receiver and Paymaster at Portsmouth Yard, and lists several society and commercial events, including a clergy marriage and a naval business fortune, with robberies and a major wine seizure by Customs at Bishopsgate and the Borough, described as the richest seizure since the war’s start.
